History Of Basketball Fantasy Sports

You can’t truly appreciate the beauty of Fantasy Sports games without knowing the history behind it. So, as part of our series on major league sports, Fantasy Factor is taking a look at the story of the National Basketball League.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional men’s basketball league, composed of thirty teams in North America (twenty-nine in the United States and one in Canada). It is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB), which is recognized by the International Basketball Federation as the National Governing Body (NGB) for basketball in the United States.

The NBA was a result of Basketball Association America (BAA) merging with National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949. The new league had seventeen franchises located in a mix of large and small cities, as well as large arenas and smaller gymnasiums and armories. In 1950, the NBA consolidated to eleven franchises, a process that continued until 1953-54, when the

Spring brings Sporting Events

Spring is eventually here! With Spring comes flowers, green grass and sunlight and it brings us my fave sporting events. Big league Baseball starts with the New York Yankees defending their World Series Championship. All of the other groups will be attempting to chase the Yankees. Will this years surprise team be the Boston Red Sox, los angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago pups or the Cincinnati Reds? Will a heavy outside bet like the Atlanta Braves or Tampa Bay Rays or Minnesota Twins have a breakout year?

The NHL playoffs start and this year will the Pittsburgh Penguins defend the Stanley Cup or will the challengers come from a list that includes, The Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks or the Boston Bruins.

Does the winner come from the Big Ten’s Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan’s Wolverines, Michigan country’s Spartans or perhaps the Iowa Hawkeyes or Purdue Boilermakers will ultimately get over the hump. Can

Lebron Outduels D-Wade In Miami, The Flash Embarrasses Himself

After two demoralizing losses to the Bulls, the Cavs looked for comfort in their own building. Wilkins was inserted into the starting lineup to put pressure on Jordan, who played despite a sore shooting wrist and it showed. Jordan was clearly in pain and couldn’t shoot the ball like he used to. With Jordan trying to adjust his shooting, Scottie Pippen had to step up his game. He scored 19 points in the first half and was the top scorer for Chicago. Once again Cleveland could not capitalize on Jordan’s injury and paid dearly when he completely took over the game in the second half. Jordan was simply unstoppable. He hit shot after shot, took the ball to the hoop and set up his teammates with a variety of great passes. Despite his injury he willed his team to another win over the Cavaliers, who let their fans down again. The best, however, was reserved for Game 4.

Lebron Outduels D-Wade In Miami, The Flash Embarrasses Himself

Last night in Miami, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade put on a show. This was the 22nd matchup between “The King” and “Flash”, and (rightly so) LeBron came out on top. This was a truly fun game to watch, especially late in the 1st half when they made into a personal battle and traded deep shots back and forth.

At halftime, D-Wade had an impressive 30 points and LeBron had a solid 22, including a two-handed monster throwdown that Wade tried to chase down and block, unsuccessfully of course. Dwayne, Dwayne, Dwayne.. now you know how foolish it is to try and block LeBron while he’s dunking. Don’t embarrass yourself again.

In the 2nd half, they both cooled off significantly, but still managed to produce a thriller at the end. With only about 20 seconds remaining, up 91-90 and a chance to add to the lead, D-Wade made another foolish decision with LeBron guarding him. He attempted a behind-the-back pass as he was doubled, which James stole and sprinted

The 2010 Nba All-Star Game Aka Lebron’s Dunk Contest

The 2010 Nba All-Star Game Aka Lebron’s Dunk Contest

This year’s NBA All-Star game took place at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, in front of over 100,000 people. The stars were out, and The King did not disappoint. Such a shame that Kobe couldn’t participate, because the show that LeBron and D-Wade put on was more or less a Dunk Contest in its own right.

This was the best All-Star game the NBA could have hoped for. Coming off the uber-disappointing Dunk Contest That Wasn’t, they needed this game to live up to its hype. It might have been ever better than was advertised, and while Dwayne Wade stole the MVP, LeBron most definitely stole the show. A close game all the way to the finish, this had the makings of a classic.

LeBron James was a one-man wrecking crew. He and Wade were on the same page, and King James brought the crowd to their feet on multiple occasions with his thunderous dunk-nasties. If you missed this game, you truly missed one of the most entertaining performances LeBron James has

The New Lebron James Movie!

The New Lebron James Movie!

Instead of playing in the FIBA World Basketball Championship this summer, Lebron James has opted to increase his already stratospheric brand by starring in a movie called “Fantasy Basketball Camp” that is starting production this summer. The movie is being written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee whose previous projects include “Soul Men” and “Undercover Brother”. The plot involves five men who come to Las Vegas to fulfill their fantasies by going to the LeBron James Adult Basketball Camp, but LeBron unintentionally gets wrapped up in their personal problems (Haha?), and the movie is supposed to be modeled after the summer blockbuster, “The Hangover.” There is no telling this early whether or not this comedy is promising but writing Peter Steinfeld (“Be Cool”, “21″) is revising the script. Whether or not this movie will be excellent is debatable, but we can all agree that it will sell very well do to the star power of the King.

But is Lebron making the right

Second Round has been Completely Unpredictable

The second round of the 2006 NBA Playoffs has been all it was hyped to be.  With the exception of the Miami vs. New Jersey series, all the games have been very close. Upsets have been scattered throughout this round, and Lebron has stepped up big time. One of the biggest surprises has the defending champions on the ropes and clinging to their playoff lives. If you picked your teams wisely, you could have taken your sportsbook to the cleaners this week. Let’s take a look at what has transpired over the past few days.

Western Conference

#1 Spurs vs. #4 Mavericks

The Mavericks lead this series 3-1 heading into Wednesday night’s game 5 in San Antonio. They have really stepped up their game, and now look like the favorites to win the Western Conference. Their 123-118 overtime victory in game four showed heart and resilience, especially coming back from a five-point deficit in the closing seconds

Dish Network in Philadelphia

Dish Network in Philadelphia

Philadelphians are proud and strong-minded Americans, who just happen to be some of the most loyal and passionate sports fans in the country. The City of Brotherly Love is host to some of the toughest pro sports teams in the nation. The Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers, have all claimed their individual sports ultimate prize – A Word Championship.

Philadelphia sports fans have no patience for anything less than the best, so it is extremely peculiar that they are forced to settle for less than the best, when it comes to choosing a service to watch their teams. Comcast, the local cable television provider and owner-distributor of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, has been using a local, legal loophole to prevent CSN Philadelphia, home of the Phillies, 76ers and Flyers, from being distributed via satellite. Seemingly leaving Philadelphia sports fans without the same choices enjoyed by the rest of the country.

A comparison of Comcast and satellite TV

History of the Boston Celtics

Chicago Bulls vs. Cleveland Cavaliers. The 5th game of the First Round in the 1989 NBA Playoffs. May 7th, 1989. The famous Michael Jordan’s “The Shot” over Craig Ehlo.

History of the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics were formed in 1946 as part of the Basketball Association of America.  They began play in the NBA in 1949 when the two leagues merged.  The following year, the Celtics became the first professional franchise to sign a black player when they drafted Chuck Cooper.

The seeds for the Celtics dynasty were formed when Red Auerbach was hired to coach the team in 1956.  Point guard Bob Cousy was acquired by Boston when the team he was playing on went bankrupt.  Auerbach was then able to make some trades and negotiations that ended with his team getting center Bill Russell forward Tommy Heinsohn.

With three future hall-of-famers, Boston went on a period of success that goes down as one of the most successful in sports.  They won their first championship in 1957 and returned to the championship series in 1958 only to lose to the St. Louis Hawks.

In 1959, the Celtics reclaimed the championship.  They

NBA Tickets ? LeBron, Kobe Back on All-NBA First Team

NBA Tickets ? LeBron, Kobe Back on All-NBA First Team

Here’s a look back at the season for those selected to be on the All-NBA First Team, a list that doesn’t have too many surprises.

Dwight Howard, Center, Orlando Magic.  Though LeBron James gets much of the league’s superstar publicity, Howard is the other number one overall draft pick who has done nothing but meet lofty expectations.  Howard was once again the defensive player of the year, aided by his 13.2 rebounds per game and 2.8 blocks a contest.  Howard also continues to be a very strong post presence on offense, as he put up 18.3 points a game during the regular season.  In the playoffs, Howard has remained equally as dominant, helping the Magic look like the team to beat so far in the NBA postseason.

LeBron James, Forward, Cleveland Cavaliers.  This was a no-brainer.  As LeBron looks to take out the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs, his regular season stats speak emphatically for themselves.  Per game, King James averaged 29.7
